known to many travelers as the “Gateway to the Eastern Shore”
The Salisbury/Ocean City Metro area spreads into portions of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. It is located in the heart of the Mid-Atlantic States along the Eastern Seaboard and is known to many travelers as the “Gateway to the Eastern Shore.” Today, this area is a center of high technology industry, top quality medical care, and world class institutions of higher learning.
The Salisbury/Ocean City region has always enjoyed steady economic growth. A major reason has been its economic diversity, from agriculture to light industry, a range of available services and development of the arts and recreation. Salisbury is Maryland’s second largest port, carrying oil products, aggregates for building and materials for the region’s boiler industry.
Ocean City has become a major resort with its beaches, leisure activities and residential development. Its economic spillovers enhance Salisbury. With that has come the development of tourism and recreation, along with a spreading of Museum of Wildfowl Art in its $5 million setting on a quiet pond, attracting people from across the nation and abroad. Another vital part of Salisbury’s growth has been the arrival of retirees, many from major cities.
The major arteries running through the Salisbury Metro Area transport local residents and tourists to some of the Atlantic Coast’s most beautiful resorts and beaches, including the Chesapeake Bay. From the Atlantic’s surf to the splendors of Chesapeake Bay, the metro area draws visitors from New York, Boston, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Atlantic City in the North, Baltimore and Washington DC to the West and Norfolk and Virginia Beach to the South. Additionally, this area is heaven to outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy sailing, fishing, hunting, boating and camping. Salisbury is a major seafood producing region where visitors can enjoy some of the area specialities at its many fine restaurants.
Clear Channel Outdoor offers clients an opportunity to reach the local and tourist traffic by providing bulletin and poster locations along the key arteries running through the metro.
