The Greater Reno-Tahoe area consists of Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, Virginia City, Fernley and Lake Tahoe. In 2007, the combined area of Reno-Sparks ranked 8th among the Top 20 Midsize Cities for Doing Business by Inc. Magazine. Reno was also ranked 21st in the Best Performing Cities Report released by the Milken Institute in February 2006.
The Reno-Sparks area attracts outdoor recreation enthusiasts from around the world. With 18 world-class ski resorts, more than 50 golf courses and Lake Tahoe nearby, Reno-Sparks draws more than five million visitors to Northern Nevada each year. While here, visitors attend business and recreational conventions, unique festivals, outstanding special events, vibrant nightlife and world class casinos. Other events that promote “America’s Adventure Place” include the Reno River Festival, the Tour de Nez bike race, the Collegiate National Whitewater Championship, plus numerous bowling competitions that take place at the National Bowling Stadium. Reno-Sparks sits on the intersection of Interstate 80, the major east-west cross-country highway, and U.S. 395, which connects Sothern California and Northern Nevada. Interstate 80 has a flow of over 115,000 cars per day, while the north-south U.S. 395 has a flow of over 104,000 cars per day. In addition, Virginia Street is a major artery that stretches from the North Valleys above Reno all the way south to Carson City. Virginia Street is highly traveled by locals and tourists alike and has a traffic flow of over 21,000 cars per day.
