Outdoor Advertising Market for Fort Smith, Arkansas

Market Overview

“the second largest city in Arkansas”

Fort Smith is the second largest city in Arkansas. Located on the Oklahoma border and along Interstate 40, this market is a center hub for Little Rock, Fayetteville, Springdale, Tulsa and Muskogee. Highway 71 from Kansas City to Shreveport also passes through the city, providing large volumes of commercial and tourism traffic.

Local industry enjoys every form of transportation: water, air, motor transit and rail. Easy access to the Arkansas River, Interstate 40, Interstate 540 and other major highways has attracted such national giants as Beverly Enterprises (a Fortune 500 company), Whirlpool. MacSteel, Owens-Corning, Planters Peanuts, Rheem-Ruud, Trane (American Standard), Hiram-Walker, Arkansas Best Corporation, Baldor Motors, Georgia Pacific and many others.

The city hosts two major hospitals with nationally recognized heart, stroke and cancer centers. People from 90 miles any direction drive to Fort Smith for work, entertainment, dining, shopping and medical care. The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith is a two-to-four year institution offering technical, nursing and business degrees.

Tourism is an integral part of the Fort Smith economy. Museums, symphonies, theaters, art centers, rodeos, fairs and festivals along with some of the finest lakes and mountains in a four-state area attract thousands of visitors annually. State tourism agencies have committed thousands of dollars to draw even more visitors this year. Mild temperatures nine months out of the year combined with the new Fort Smith Convention Center, Riverfront Amphitheater and multimillion dollar improvements to highways point to continued rapid growth.

The Clear Channel Outdoor-Fort Smith division has rotary bulletins, permanent bulletins, premiere panels and posters throughout northwestern Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma, including Bentonville, home of Wal-Mart; Springdale, home of Tyson Foods; and J.B. Hunt Transportation. Muskogee, OK, part of the Tulsa DMA, is also part of the plant service area.

Fort Smith is the only city in the region with public transportation. Consequently, almost all commuting is done in personal vehicles. As the oldest and largest outdoor advertising company in the region, Clear Channel Outdoor reaches MORE of the total market. No other advertising media can provide efficient and extensive reach and frequency like Clear Channel Outdoor.

As Mayor Ray Baker says frequently, “Life’s worth living in Fort Smith, Arkansas!”
